This window is in fact related to the Chromstera browser \u2013 a rogue web browser app. The appearance of this window happens along with systems going crazy \u2013 browsers crash, dubious browser extensions appear, and unknown programs are getting installed.<\/p>\n<h2>What is Universal Browser?<\/h2>\n<p>Universal browser is a mysterious web browser that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/pchelp\/comments\/1cdpf1a\/chromsters_universal_browser\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">users started to notice<\/a> through the \u201cUniversal Browser Update\u201d windows. In fact, no browser with such a name exists \u2013 this name appears exclusively in the update window. Contrary to Universal Browser, it is an actual program \u2013 similar to Chromstera in <strong>the extent of malicious functionality<\/strong> and poor overall execution. One rogue browser installs a lot of <a href=\"https:\/\/gridinsoft.com\/unwanted-program\">unwanted apps<\/a> and plugins, and two can definitely make the system unusable.<\/p>\n<p>Other symptoms of this mess include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chrome regularly crashes.<\/li>\n<li>Upon PC startup, the &#8220;Universal browser&#8221; initiates an update process (a potential reason for Chrome to crash).<\/li>\n<li>All of the user browser extensions are removed, with several others being addded with the &#8220;extension is managed by your organization&#8221; feature.<\/li>\n<li>The aforementioned extensions have a strange name. Users report about &#8220;AstroEllipica&#8221;, &#8220;Stell Ellipen&#8221;, <a href=\"https:\/\/gridinsoft.com\/blogs\/dragon-angel-extension\/\">and more<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Deleting the extension in a regular way does not help, it reappears again.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How To Remove Universal Browser?<\/h2>\n<p>There are two ways to remove Universal Browser \u2014 automatic and manual. To remove it with minimum effort, download and run GridinSoft Anti-Malware: it will quickly find and remove all the unwanted programs present in the system. Run <strong>a Full scan<\/strong> to check all the disks present in the system. After the scan, consider <a href=\"https:\/\/gridinsoft.com\/blogs\/how-to-reset-my-browser\/\">resetting the browser settings<\/a> to wipe the residual settings left after the malware activity. Restart your computer. The &#8220;Universal browser&#8221; should start updating. Press <strong>Ctrl+Shift+Esc<\/strong> to open the task manager quickly. Please search it using the search bar, right-click it, and click <strong>Open file location<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gridinsoft.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/task-manager-file-location.webp\" alt=\"Process menu in the Task Manager\" width=\"766\" height=\"583\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21951\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gridinsoft.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/task-manager-file-location.webp 766w, https:\/\/gridinsoft.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/task-manager-file-location-300x228.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 766px) 100vw, 766px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Go to the file location of the application that is running. Next, delete all found files.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, you may open This PC, search for &#8220;universal browser,&#8221; and delete all items you find. Next, try searching &#8220;chromstera&#8221; and also delete all found items. Usually, it is found in <strong>C:\\Users\\(your_user)\\AppData\\Local\\Temp<\/strong> folder. Go to <strong>C:\\program files\\google\\chrome\\application<\/strong> and delete any .crx files.<br \/>\nTo proceed, please Press <strong>Windows + R<\/strong> on your keyboard, type regedit, and select the OK button. Next, copy and paste the following path into the address bar and press Enter:<\/p>\n<p><code style=\"font-size: 14px\">Computer\\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Google\\Chrome<\/code><\/p>\n<p>Select the Chrome folder in the left pane of your Registry Editor.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gridinsoft.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/regedit.webp\" alt=\"Registry Editor screenshot\" width=\"566\" height=\"283\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21953\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gridinsoft.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/regedit.webp 566w, https:\/\/gridinsoft.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/regedit-300x150.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 566px) 100vw, 566px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Right-click the Chrome policy you want to remove, then select Delete.<\/p>\n<p>Open Chrome and ensure the extension is removed.
